Ocean and Sky
April 16th - 21st, 2024
Forteleoni Gallery, Milan

Forteleoni Gallery presents Ocean and Sky, a solo exhibition by the California-based artist Lachlan Turczan which is open throughout Salone del Mobile 2024. The exhibition encompasses the windows of Forteleoni Gallery, which feature the first gallery presentation of Turczan's light artworks from his ongoing Veil series.

By day, visitors will see ink-black reflecting pools of water vibrating with infrasonic frequencies, creating small oceans.  These liquid sculptures - one circular and one square - are a hallmark of Turczan's exploration of how harmonic and resonant phenomena can alter human perception. Depending on the frequencies played in the water, visitors will experience different states of perceptual rhythms which can result in the sense of time accelerating or slowing.

At night, two light sculptures shine from these pools of water, appearing as physical objects in mid-air.  Gentle swirls of mist pass through these light sculptures in a miniature recreation of atmospheric phenomena. The eddies and currents in the air are made visible by these columns of light, which are caught by the atomized water molecules.  Where the light meets the water, it shines through the complex network of cymatic wave patterns to create a lattice-work of reflections and refractions.
