An ellipse of light is projected onto a pool, which reflects a circle onto a translucent screen to be superimposed on the landscape. When the water is disturbed, it distorts the circle into wavering patterns that eventually return to a simplified geometry.

This light artwork was first created during an artist residency at Piaule in Catskill New York during an artist residency in September 2023.

Wavering, December 2023

California Botanic Garden, California, USA

I was invited to present Wavering at the California Botanic Garden in Claremont, California during their annual Luminaria nights. This festival activates the garden each evening with a series of candles and light artworks.

The biggest takeaway from the first public exhibition of Wavering is how guests, no matter their age, engage with the work with childlike curiosity and in a playful manner. I love hearing first reactions, responding to questions, and sharing some of my own thoughts about what might be at play. While documenting this evening, I unintentionally recorded a conversation with a group who asked about the significance of water and light. There is nothing more rewarding than these interactions with the public and sharing my fascination - some say obsession - with this natural phenomena.
